WELCOME TO

 HUMMINGBIRD STUDIO

An Art + Meditation Studio for kids & adults to ignite your joy, express your soul & make magic.

Welcome to my sanctuary of creativity, meditation and joy

Hummingbird Studio is a warm, contained space offering a range of classes, workshops, and one-to-one sessions throughout the year. Everything offered here is designed to bring more creativity, presence and colour into your life whether you are a child, a teenager, or an adult.

I have a B.a in Fine Art, an M.a in Art theory and Social Theory, trained as a meditation teacher and trauma informed somatic movement teacher and special needs assistant. I have over 15 years of experience working with children in schools, communities, social care outreach services and with charities and government agencies. I am currently under going training in play through Nature with the Childrens Therapy Centre. The work I do with children is informed by many years of training but also loved experiences and a razor sharp understanding of children individual needs. In a former post working with children my manager at the time used to call me ‘‘ The child whisperer’’ because of my ability to listen to the emotions and needs of a child.

For adults I have extensive meditation training and spiritual studies completed and working with adults brings me alot of joy and I love to share what I know in meditation circles and transformative Sunday Art experiences

The studio hosts:

  • One-to-one art sessions for children and young people

  • Creative support for children with additional or complex needs

  • Meditation circles to calm the mind and deepen intuition

  • Art classes that encourage authentic self-expression

  • Small, inspiring ART & NATURE workshops exploring creativity, imagination, nature, and elemental themes

This is a space where play, dreaming, and creativity are valued just as much as focus and structure. Sessions are held at a gentle pace, allowing people to feel safe enough to explore, express and grow without pressure.

My approach blends:

  • Visual art and creative process

  • Meditation, mindfulness and body awareness

  • Emotional attunement and nervous-system regulation

I work slowly and intentionally, valuing depth over volume. Much of my work is one-to-one, as this allows each person to be met exactly where they are. This is especially supportive for sensitive, creative or neurodivergent children and young people.

I truly believe in the power of art to transform our lives, the grounding nature of meditation to ease chaotic minds, and the joy that comes from reconnecting with imagination, nature, and play.

Ireland, its land, stories and natural rhythms deeply informs my work. The essence of this landscape weaves its way into many of the classes and workshops held at Hummingbird Studio.

Art Classes for Children (Ages 4–7)

For children who like to explore creativity at their own pace, without pressure or overwhelm.

Hummingbird Studio

At Hummingbird Studio, my play-based art classes offer children a nurturing space where creativity, imagination, and emotional expression can flourish.

Each class begins with a gentle creative invitation a theme, material, or idea to spark curiosity. From there, children are encouraged to interpret the activity in their own unique way, exploring art freely rather than following rigid instructions.

Children usually spend the first part of the class creating at the art table, drawing, painting, building, and experimenting with materials. There is no right or wrong way to create, allowing every child’s individual voice and creativity to shine.

After this focused art time, the children are free to explore the studio through imaginative play and sensory experiences. They might move to the musical instruments, the doll house, or my collection of found materials where storytelling, building, and messy play often naturally unfold.

Many children are drawn to messy sensory play, which helps them release energy, reduce stress, and settle their nervous systems in a healthy and natural way.

Some children also enjoy quiet moments with me exploring emotion cards, helping them gently build awareness of their feelings while feeling supported and heard.

At Hummingbird Studio, I recognise that every child is a unique spirit with their own rhythm and way of expressing themselves. The classes hold a soft, supportive structure while allowing children the freedom to follow their curiosity and creativity.

This is not about perfect artwork.
It’s about confidence, imagination, emotional expression, and joyful creative exploration.

Hummingbird Studio is a place where children can create, play, move, imagine, and truly be themselves.

Grown Up + Me

Join us for a messy morning of messy creativity and play.

This is a class for moms, dads, guardians and babies and toddlers. Hummingbird studio offers a lovely florr space so you can get messy and co regulate and bond with your children and with othe parents.

Its a zero fuss hour where you can get messy and dont have to worry about the clean up!

The benefits of this class are

Babies learn through their senses first. Squishing paint, scooping oats, smearing yogurt — these experiences:

  • Build neural pathways

  • Strengthen fine motor skills

  • Support early problem-solving

  • Improve tolerance for new textures (which even helps with picky eating later)

From a developmental lens, messy play is early neuroscience in action.

2. Emotional Regulation

Touching, smearing, pouring ,repetitive sensory actions calm the nervous system.
It’s co-regulation in physical form.3. Autonomy & Confidence

There’s no “right way” to finger paint.
That freedom builds:

  • Initiative

  • Curiosity

Messy Makers!

Messy Makers!

Messy Makers is a creative and messy morning of Art and sensory play for Moms, Guardians & Toddlers

Messy Makers – Friday Mornings 10.30-11.30 am at Hummingbird Studio. 50 euro. (no pay as you go classes available) AGES 2 YEARS- 4 YEARS

I’m so delighted to introduce Messy Makers, a new Friday morning class at Hummingbird Studio.

Every day in the studio I see the positive impact that getting creative on the floor has on both parents and children. Hummingbird Studio is a calm, warm, welcoming space where everyone takes off their shoes, sits down on the ground, and begins to explore, create, and get a little messy together. Something really lovely happens in those moments — the stress and busyness of daily life starts to soften and disappear.

Each class has a simple, gentle structure, but it is very much child-led. I intentionally leave plenty of space for play and discovery, because that’s where the real magic happens. There’s no pressure to perform or produce anything perfect. Families can simply follow their child’s curiosity and enjoy being together in the moment.

Messy and sensory play are a big part of the studio. These kinds of activities aren’t just fun — they’re deeply beneficial for children’s development. Sensory play supports brain development, creativity, emotional regulation, and confidence, while therapeutic art allows children to express themselves freely without needing words. When children explore textures, colours, and movement, they are strengthening neural connections, developing motor skills, and learning about the world through their senses.

I also love watching what happens for parents in these spaces. When adults slow down, sit on the floor, and create alongside their child, it becomes a moment of connection, co-regulation, and bonding.

In Messy Makers we’ll explore edible sensory play stations as well. Toddlers naturally explore the world through their mouths, so using safe edible materials like cereals and grains allows them to fully engage in sensory play without worry.

Building community is something I care deeply about. I want Hummingbird Studio to be a place where people feel comfortable being exactly who they are. Whether you’re a parent, a baby, a toddler, or simply someone who needs a warm and welcoming space, you are welcome here as you are.

Come along, take off your shoes, sit on the floor, and let’s make a little magic together.

Nature Inside & Out is a slow-paced, grounding and joy-filled club for children aged 4–10, designed to help them unwind after the school day and reconnect to themselves through creative nature-based play.

Each session is a soft landing after a busy day, a space where children can just be. Together, we’ll explore nature through the senses, make beautiful things with our hands, and follow the natural flow of the afternoon, whether that means sand tray therapy, weaving with willow, or sitting quietly listening to the birds.

If the weather is kind, we’ll spend part of each session in the woods—building willow tipis, making mini habitats, noticing seasonal changes or simply lying back and listening to the wind in the trees. Inside, we’ll continue the magic with art practices that might include visual Art, crafts, natural painting, mandala-making, or crafting with gathered treasures.

At the heart of it all is a sense of freedom, connection, and deep acceptance. There’s no pressure to perform or "do it right" just space to explore, create and be fully themselves. With a therapeutic play practitioner supporting each session, we hold space gently for children’s feelings, friendships and unique ways of engaging.

🌼 What the Sessions Look Like:

  • Nature-Based Exploration – indoors and out: from woodland wanders and sensory games to nature listening and sand tray therapy

  • Art & Making – creative sessions using natural materials: painting, weaving, clay, storytelling through art, and more

  • Time in the Woods (weather permitting) – building tipis, collecting treasures, grounding play and imaginative freedom under the trees

  • Calm, Grounded Transitions – soft rhythms that help kids decompress and shift gears after a structured school day

  • Child-Led Flow some days are lively and muddy, some are quiet and dreamy and all are welcome

🍃 Why Families Love It:

  • Freedom to Be Themselves – every child is accepted exactly as they are, with no pressure or expectations

  • Friendship & Bonding – shared play, trust and creativity help children connect in gentle and joyful ways

  • Supports Emotional Wellbeing – nature, play and creativity offer grounding, soothing tools for big feelings

  • Fuels Imagination & Curiosity open ended play invites wonder and creative exploration

  • Nurtures the Whole Child – emotionally, socially, creatively and spiritually

  • Held with Care – by facilitators who are experienced, compassionate and deeply child-centered

Brid ogs are hand crafted dolls that both adults and children will make together. The brid ogs carries on a tradition that goes back thousands of years. The Brid og would be left on boats and in houses as a symbol of protection for the year a head.

Using the Brid ogs we will set postive intentions about what we want to see grow through Spring.

Brigid had many friendships with Animals and you’ll hear many stories of brigids adventures with these animals.

Lino printing is a syle of printmaking where you will carve your own image onto a lino block and then print onto paper with rollers.

This is fine art practice and you and your family will learn how to do this practice at home also.

Listen to the story of the Brat bride which is bridgets muliti coloured cloak.

As the Cailleach’s cloak brought Winter, Brigids brat brought Spring.

Brigid decided to make her home in Kildare. She wished to build a convent there and set out to find the perfect site. Eventually, she found a place that would be ideal for her new convent. However, the land belonged to the King of Leinster.

Brigid met the King of Leinster and a band of horsemen returning from a hunt, she approached the king and told him she needed land. He asked her how much she needed, and Brigid replied that all she asked for was the amount her cloak would cover.

Amused by this strange request, the King agreed, and she laid her cloak on the ground. To his amazement, the cloak grew and spread until it covered the rich, green acres we know today as The Curragh of Kildare. This area is also known as St. Brigid's Pastures.
