The Power of Breath & Coming Together – A Reflection on Episode 4 of the Tommy & Tricia Podcast
Welcome to the fourth episode of the Tommy and Tricia Podcast, where we continue our journey through meditation, connection, and community. This week, we’re just emerging from the deep, emotional waters of the Scorpio full moon – a time known for transformation and introspection. It felt like the perfect moment to talk about two themes close to our hearts: the power of the breath and the power of coming together.
In last week’s episode, we explored the benefits of meditation, and this week we dive deeper into one of the most powerful tools within it – the breath.
Why Breath Matters
As Tommy so beautifully puts it, “Our breath is very important for breathing – and for living.” It sounds simple, but how often do we actually listen to our breath? Most of us go through the day without noticing it. But when we pause and bring our attention inward, even for a minute, we can feel the energy and calm that conscious breathing offers.
Taking a deep breath – one that reaches all the way into the belly or the solar plexus – and slowly releasing it, can immediately shift how we feel. Whether we're anxious, excited, or overwhelmed, the breath helps us reset.
Even a few deep, mindful breaths can change the energy within us. It brings oxygen, yes – but it also brings presence, peace, and a connection back to ourselves.
Breath and Emotional Healing
We talked about how even just 15 minutes of breathwork – guided or self-led – can clear emotional tension and shift our mood. Techniques like rebirthing or holotropic breathwork can go even deeper, helping to release stuck energy and subconscious patterns.
Tommy shared that you don’t always need a teacher or a track – sometimes it’s enough to simply sit down and breathe. Inhaling what you need. Exhaling what you don’t. A sacred, quiet exchange between the self and the universe.
As Tricia shared, “The breath can change everything. It purifies and resets us. It helps us let go of what’s heavy, and make space for what’s new.”
Meditation, Community, and Connection
At the heart of our work is coming together. Every Tuesday evening in Chile, we host a meditation class that brings people of all ages and walks of life into one circle. It's not just about stillness – it’s about storytelling, sharing, and real human connection.
We’ve witnessed the power of someone in their 60s sharing a reflection, and someone in their 20s listening and growing from it. Each voice offers wisdom. Each story helps lighten another’s load. As Tommy said, “Sometimes, hearing someone else’s story makes your own feel lighter.”
There's something healing in simply sitting in a room where everyone is seen and heard. Life has its ups and downs, and community gives us the strength to face them – together.
A Smile, a Hello, a Moment of Joy
Connection doesn’t have to be deep or dramatic. Sometimes it's just a smile on the street, a hello, or a moment of laughter. Tommy reminds us to run after someone if you forget to say hello! That simple human exchange – a wave, a smile – reminds us that we matter. That someone sees us.
This, too, is part of the practice: staying open-hearted. Joy and connection are part of our healing. Part of our journey.
Moving Forward with Lightness
Breath and meditation help us stay unstuck. When we stop moving, we stagnate – like being caught in a loop, spinning but going nowhere. But when we breathe, when we connect, when we gather in circle and share, we move forward.
We raise our vibration. We release the heavy and welcome in the light. We begin to see things from a new perspective – more clearly, more kindly, more freely.
Tommy reminded us that, “Meditation brings you to a better place. It’s always moving you forward. It brings in joy, lightness, and helps you see your life with fresh eyes.”
Connection Is a Mirror
One of the deepest truths we touched on is that connection to others is a path back to ourselves. When we listen to someone else's story, we often hear echoes of our own. We find language for things we hadn’t voiced. We soften. We understand ourselves better.
As we connect outward, we clear space inward. We open. We heal.
A Closing Thought
These are intense times. If you only looked at the headlines, you might think we’re at the end of the line. But we believe the real medicine is in the local. The small. The real. It’s in sitting with your neighbour, chatting over tea, breathing together in silence, or having the craic on a walk.
So take a breath – a real one. Let it go slowly. And remember, you're not alone.
Thanks
Tricia & Tommy
