Play-Based Art Classes for Children (Ages 4–10)
Hummingbird Studio
At Hummingbird Studio, my play-based art classes offer children a nurturing space where creativity, imagination, and emotional expression can flourish.
Each class begins with a gentle creative invitation a theme, material, or idea to spark curiosity. From there, children are encouraged to interpret the activity in their own unique way, exploring art freely rather than following rigid instructions.
Children usually spend the first part of the class creating at the art table, drawing, painting, building, and experimenting with materials. There is no right or wrong way to create, allowing every child’s individual voice and creativity to shine.
After this focused art time, the children are free to explore the studio through imaginative play and sensory experiences. They might move to the musical instruments, the doll house, or my collection of found materials where storytelling, building, and messy play often naturally unfold.
Many children are drawn to messy sensory play, which helps them release energy, reduce stress, and settle their nervous systems in a healthy and natural way.
Some children also enjoy quiet moments with me exploring emotion cards, helping them gently build awareness of their feelings while feeling supported and heard.
At Hummingbird Studio, I recognise that every child is a unique spirit with their own rhythm and way of expressing themselves. The classes hold a soft, supportive structure while allowing children the freedom to follow their curiosity and creativity.
This is not about perfect artwork.
It’s about confidence, imagination, emotional expression, and joyful creative exploration.
Hummingbird Studio is a place where children can create, play, move, imagine, and truly be themselves.
